I am a 23-year-old product designer from Noida, India. I like to design for delight, hiding animations and easter eggs in my designs. People usually call me bittu, you can too.
I have 3+ years of industry experience in design. I make jokes in the most serious situations, and can’t really say no to anyone for anything. I don't like coffee, it's kadva.
I started out with graphic design and loved making event posters photoshopping my friends into animals. I am fascinated by motion and 3D design, and have had my fair share of experience in both, which I also frequently use in my interfaces. Currently, I am making a career in product design.
I play the piano and learning to play the cajon. I am intrigued by any and all types of puzzles. I am trying to learn some 3D software right now. Oh, I love Pokemon too, and am exploring my recently found interest in FPS games.
I have a pet cat, her name is Radio;
I am a geek for burgers;
I want to visit Bali sometime;
I want to meet Ryan Reynolds;
I was born and raised in Noida, a city near Delhi, India. My pre-college life was pretty bland - the usual studying, coaching, playing cricket with friends on a Sunday morning. I went to DPS Noida - love that place, a lot of memories were made there.
I went to college at IIT Roorkee to pursue a degree in Chemical Engineering, without a clue about what chemical engineers do. Convinced that engineering not something that I am interested in or can make a career out of, I went on to explore what other stuff lies out there for me.
I tried out programming, finance, even gave a shot to machine learning before finally stumbling upon design. I was instantly fascinated about what I saw on screens - those colours, interactions, animations, renders - it was a total feast for the eyes. That’s what got me hooked on to design.
I started out with visual design with Illustrator and Photoshop, learned 3D design with Blender, gave motion design a try with AfterEffects, learned some UX principles and Figma for UI design and prototyping, moved on to frontend development, gave up with frontend development, and finally learned to use Webflow to develop websites. I still try out some new software now and then. Currently I am learning MagicaVoxel and Aseprite.
I have been designing since 2019. I have done several internships and freelances. I plan to continue in the same field, at least for the foreseeable future.
My philosophy revolves around the fact that design is based purely upon delight - delight of using a product, delight of accomplishing a goal, so much delight that it makes you return to the product and makes you want to use it more - that’s what design is all about, getting the user hooked.
More than the practice of delivering pinpoint UX, easing the journey, or optimising for clicks, a user will notice how much the design pleases them while using it. UX is a silent feature of a product. The visuals are loud. During a flow, and the effort and delight put into it is crucial to the user satisfaction achieved at the end.
Now the question comes around how to achieve this delight. Is it by flashy colours? Is it by beautiful fonts and perfect spacing? Is it by the use of consistent and harmonious components? Patterns? Sound effects? Animations and interactions maybe. Can you achieve delight by using some 3D elements? Oh, if nothing works, use AI. ✨
Nope, none of elements of design can alone achieve this delight factor. I believe that it is only by a creative culmination of these different fields that a designer can fully unlock the path to user satisfaction.
Designers need to think in more than one dimension. Using just the frames in Figma will get you nowhere, but combine it with beautiful illustrations, micro-interactions and animations, and some 3D assets here and there, and you can create an experience that gets stuck in the user’s mind.
I work on this philosophy. Some might agree, some might disagree.
